Sova Sen was born on September 1923 in Kartikpur Village of Faridpur (now in Bangladesh). Her father was Nripendra Kumar Sengupta and mother Kanaklata Sen. She passed the Prabesika Exam from Binapani Girls School and B.A from Culcutta University in 1943. Her debut film was Chhinnomul” directed by Nemai Ghosh in 1948. But her first released film was Paribartan directed by Satyen Bose in 1949. Chhinnamul was released in 1951. She has acted in more than 200 Bengali films including “Vidyasagar”, “Raat Bhor” (Mrinal Sen’s first film), “Chirokumar Saha”, “Pathe Holo Deri”, “Thagini”, “Chopper”, “Madhuban” etc. She was associated with “Indira Peoples Theatre”. She was one of the prominent actresses of Little Theatre Group and People Little Theatre. She also acted in Jatra. She married twice. He first husband was Gopal Sen. They got one son. Then she marry actor director Utpal Dutta. They got one daughter named Bishnupriya who also an actress.
