Special indeed, but not like ‘A Wednesday’…

    Special 26 rating: 8 out of 10

Five years back a small film starring two great actors got released and was one of the biggest surprise hit of that time. This movie satisfied the thirst of both – good movie lovers & box office collections. We had hardly witnessed such type of theme and treatment in Hindi Cinema, ‘A Wednesday’ was a total treat for movie lovers. This movie had fantastic writing along with outstanding performances by Naseeruddin Shah & Anupam Kher. But above all of these it was the vision of the director – Neeraj Pandey which made this movie what it was. Movie lovers were waiting to see ... » read more

Special 26 is good, but disappoints

    Special 26 rating: 5 out of 10

Not that I had huge expectations from the film, but I was just hoping that it won't disappoint. But sadly, it does.

    The positives:
    1. The film has a superb concept.
    2. No actor disappoints - they all are brilliant in their roles.
    3. The 1980s era has been presented well with the vintage cars and phones.
    4. Superb twist in the climax

    The negatives:
    1. The camera keeps on following the characters as they walk. This perpetual following stretches the film unnecessarily.
    2. The love story between Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal is also ... » read more

An hour thriller stretched to 2.5 hours.

    Special 26 rating: 5 out of 10

    By Aditya Prasad(10 Feb 2013)

The movie is about a fake CBI team in the 1980's which used to raid politicians and big business man's homes/ offices to get all the black money out and took away with them. Since this money was not something that they could legally posses, non of these victims ever filed a complaint and hence never got published in the newspapers.

A perfect modus operandi for a perfect series of loot and supposedly based on true stories. Nice work done by the gang of 4 - Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma (Khosla Ka Ghosla fame) and Kishore Kadam.

The problem ... » read more

Reality One: In the year 1980 (Mumbai), A big showroom of Jewellery was looted by some men posing 'Fake' C.B.I Officer's. Those men were never caught by the Police Authorities. The investigations was digging further and it was reported similar kinds of Robberies took place in some other parts of India. Reality Two: Neeraj Pandey who gave a cult classic 'A Wednesday' comes up with a film which is based on those Robberies ... » read more

Film: Special Chabbis; Writer-director: Neeraj Pandey; Cast: Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Sheirgil, Rajesh Sharma, Kishore Kadam, Divya Dutta and Kajal Aggarwal; Rating: ****

Gimme raid, said the fake CBI officers who in a daredevil swoop-down on a well-known jewellery outlet in Mumbai in 1983 escaped with loot worth lakhs. If done today, it would have been a heist worth crores.

But that's the devilish beauty of Neeraj Pandey's second feature film. Though set in a world where lakhs were a large fortune, he gives us a caper-thriller worth crores. The period detailing of the 1980s - the cars, hotel lobbies, clothes, hairstyle and most importantly, the attitude to wealth acquisition (scams were unknown back then, scandals were as far as the financials over-reachers went) - they all add» Read full review
