Who says Straight is Boring ?
Vinay Pathak has been exploring the new and different genre in Hindi Cinema. His latest offering is about a man who is confused whether he is straight or Gay. We have seen couple of serious films and Comedy films on this topic. But this movie is more on the confusion of the main protagonist and that too in funny way.
‘Straight’ is story of Pinu Patel [Vinay Pathak] a London based Indian running a restaurant, who along with his Uncle [Rasik Dave] and Aunt [Ketki Dave] goes to India to get married. But fate has its own way, the girl ditches him and leaves him alone. Pinu gets disturbed and comes back to London, he tries to hide what ever happened in India with everyone. At that time enters two new characters in his life, Kamles [Anuj Chaudhary] and Renu [Gul Panag] who join his restaurant as cook and cashier. He is attracted towards Renu and also becomes good friend of Kamles. One day An incident happens which changes Pinu’s life. He is suddenly attracted towards Kamles and is confused where he likes him or Renu. Thus starts the confusing ride of the confusion of Pinu Patel.
Story is funny and different. It has been bold at times too. The confusion part is shown with good dose of funny moments thus not making it preachy and boring. Screenplay is bit weak in first half, but pulls up in second one. There are some great moments along with good intelligent adult humor. Still needed the pace to be faster and crispier. Background Music is good. Camera work is very nice and interesting too. The film has been given the American humor feel on the technical values.
Director has attempted a different side on this theme and has shown the confusion of this man in wonderful manner. Though some might digest those bold scene with adult humor and some won’t. Her direction lacks the pace grip and also the film needs some good editing in first half. Also one does wish more humor should had been added to film.
Vinay Pathak has been in his character and has portrayed his role with superb conviction. You can feel his confusion at times. Gul Panag is sweet and delivers a good role. Anuj Chaudhary is okay and we needed some one more experienced than him. In some scenes he is irritating. Ketki dave and rasik dave are good. Rest all were ok.
So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum ?
Dum hain aur different bhi hain. In the movie there is a dialog ‘Straight’s are boring’ , I would say who says so ? as this one is not boring at all. In fact it’s funny, different, bold and time pass.
