Expectations: Karan johar is back with his upcoming glamorous film with Student of the Year and vishal-shekhar have been linked with some super-hit musical hits with KJO recently. With the ravishing promos, the music definately was much exciting and entertaining. Lets see if they succeed again.

Ratta maar (vishal dadlani and shefali alvarez): Its not a grand opening to the album but 'ratta-maar' is a very honest composition. A medium paced peppy number which vishal has mostly dominated with static tunes and modulation. The song is bound to be dedicated on college set-up. Shefali supports vishal with brief vocals. Ratta-maar will remind you somewhat of 'All is well'. The fate of this song will depends upon its picturization.

Radha (shreya ghoshal, udit narayan,Vishal dadlani): An ideal start to the song with typically old taste and required genre. Shreya starts the songs with her sweet voice. This song might be a performance based composition for the movie. A very beautifully composed track. Vishal again dominates yet udit enters par late . It makes difficult for one to say whether it will be an out and out success or fade away. Anvitta dutt's lyrics are rendered nicely. Music doesn't dissapoint either. The overall appeal of the song leaves you wanting.

Ishq wala love (shekhar ravijani, salim merchant, neeti mohan): Time for some romance now! Ishq wala love will remind you of 'sadka hua'(I hate luv storys). A typical combo of vishal-shekhar music and Anvitta dutt gupta lyrics. Beautifully rendered by salim and shekhar 'ishq wala love' has not that grand feel to it. Hear it for this grand combo of all artists. A sub-par song as vishal- shekhar are expected to deliver bigg!

The Disco song (Benny Dayal,Sunidhi Chauhan, nazia hossain): Bang-Bang,Boom-Boom and its parthy time now! Get your shoelaces Tighten right now. A winner song all the way. The disco song is a perfect treat for all disco deewane. This is exactly what we expect from vishal-shekhar. A raw and fresh track which gives some life to this album that was getting a bit bored. A high-beat disco song which is very-very tongue sticking. This one is for the long times. The best part of song is when sunidhi recites-'hum to deewane' after each chorous. Benny is at his best as usually. Go for it!

Vele (Vishal-shekhar): Its time to listen something fresh and brilliant. A big gift for all vishal-shekhar fans. A chartbuster song without any doubt. A punjabi tadka song with english supportive rap! Vishal-shekhar's music is pulasting with foot-tapping instance. Its the rhythm that makes you feel enjoyable. Vele is a catchy, high on hopes and highly addictive. The musical arrangements are just admireable that goes on with shekhar's impressive and charming voice. With the tactics and promos ,it should be a big-hit.

kukkad (shahid mallya): Song starts with cock's crowing and high-beats that will mostly keep you dragging more and more. Not that impressive however full marks to shahid malliya for his enthusiastic singing. It has the taste of some punjabi fast masala flick where something remained confusing and missing.
      Could have been better!

Overall- On the whole SOTY is a half-baked album. Student of the year could have been an ordinary affair, thanks to 'the disco song' and 'vele' that saves the day for vishal - shekhar.

      My favourites- "the disco-song","Vele".
