At a time when Lata was ruling the roost and Asha had already established a genre of her class, Suman Kalyanpur made her advent felt and acknowledged by her mellifluous voice. She was often used as a good substitute for Lata. S.D Burman made a brilliant exploitation of her talent. Foir the film "Baat Ek Raat Ki" Suman sang with Hemant Kumar "Na tum hame jaano, na hum tumhe jaane..."which has become one of the finest melodies of all times. The voice is, at times, mistaken for that of Lata.
