Sunidhi Chauhan was born on 14th August 1983. Her father, Dushyant Chauhan, was the first one to spot her talent and he moved to Mumbai with his entire family to develop her talent. They moved to the city of dreams and into music director Kalyanji 'bhai's Little Wonders troupe, in which she was the lead singer.
Sunidhi won the title in the TV show Meri Aawaz Suno in 1996. The prize for the winner was to cut an album with HMV and Sunidhi recorded Aira Gaira Nathu Khaira with the music company. However, this was promoted as a kid’s album. Although her first break in a Hindi film was in the film Shastra, her breakthrough movie was Ram Gopal Verma's Mast. She sang the hit Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi and also three other songs (including Mast) in the film. Shastra was followed by films like Gang, Veergati, Dahek, Bade Dilwala, Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Shyam Benegal’s Samar. But it was ‘Mast’ which catapulted her to success. The film’s composer was Sandeep Chowta and Sunidhi’s song became the biggest hit number of the film. Then came Jungle where she sang for Sandeep Chowta once again. This was followed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir. She added yet another feather to her cap by bagging the R D Burman award for the most promising newcomer at the Filmfare Awards 2001. Perhaps her biggest song to date has been "Bhaage Re Mann" in the film Chameli which prompted people to compare her versatility with the legendary singer Asha Bhosle. Sunidhi was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games at Doha, Qatar where she sang "Reach Out". However, not one to rest on her laurels, Sunidhi has started training in Indian classical music to improve her skills.
In 2000 Sunidhi won the Filmfare R.D. Burman Award for New Music Talent. In 2001 she won the R. D. Burman award for most promising newcomer. In 2004 she won the Star Screen Award Best Female Playback for the song Sajna Ve Sajna (Chameli). In 2005 she won the IIFA and Zee Cine Award for Female Best Playback Singer for the song Dhoom Machale (Dhoom). In 2007 she won the Filmfare Award and the Star Screen Award for the Best Female Playback Singer for the song Beedi (Omkara). Sunidhi is one of the most successful female playback singers in bollywood today. She was married to music video director/producer Bobby Khan. In Feb 2007, as part of it's marketing campaign during the launch of Windows Vista in India, Microsoft hired Sunidhi Chauhan to sing the "Windows Vista Song" titled Wow is Now.
