Born as Ajay Singh Deol on 19th October 1961 in New Delhi to veteran actor Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur, Sunny Deol is one of Bollywoods most famous action heroes. Always interested in pursuing a career in acting, Sunny went to England and joined the Old Web Theatre in Birmingham where he studied theatre and acting. He is married to Pooja Deol and they have two children.

Sunny’s first movie, Betaab, released in 1983, where he starred opposite Amrita Singh was a runaway hit. The film was the perfect launch pad for the young Deol. Betaab was followed by some average films. Deol’s next big break came with the film Arjun (1985), where he portrayed with finesse the role of a disillusioned youth who takes up arms to fight against the system. The film established his image as the action hero of Bollywood. After a period of missed success, came another big hit, Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ghayal (1990). Sunny’s greatest moment came when he received the national award for his role of a lawyer in 'Damini'. Many of his films in the action genre including Tridev (1989), Vishwatma (1992), Imtihaan (1995), Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), Border (1998) and Indian (2001) were the biggest hits of his career. Sunny also tasted success in romantic and dramatic films like Chaalbaaz (1989), Damini - Lightning (1993), Darr (1993), Jeet (1996) and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001). Gadar remains one of the most successful Bollywood films to date at the box office. Sunny made his directorial debut with Dillagi starring himself and younger brother Bobby Deol and Urmila Matondkar. Though the film wasn't a box office success it but won him critical acclaim.

Sunny’s last release is Apne which brought him with his father and brother together for the first time. The film did moderately well. In the pipeline are films The Challenge, Airport, Subway, Gurudakshina, Ghayal2, Faasi, Heroes, Masters and Man.
