    Supriya Pathak was born on January 7, 1961. She belongs to a family of powerful performers, her mother being Dina Pathak, a well known character actress known for playing mother and grandmother in the 1980s and 90s. Her sister, Ratna Pathak is also an actress, and is married to Naseeruddin Shah. Supriyas Pathak herself is married to Pankaj Kapoor, undoubtedly one of India’s finest actors.

    Supriya’s had a dream start to her career with the critically acclaimed Shyam Benegal film, Kalyug (1981). Supriya Pathak established herself as one of the finest actresses of her times, her genre being parallel cinema. Kalyug was followed by Bazaar and Vijeta (1982), Masoom (1983), Mirch Masala (1985) in all of which she proved her mettle as a powerful actress. Supriya also played a minor role as Mahatma Gandhi's niece in the multi-award-winning biopic Gandhi (1982) and starred in the 1988 French film The Bengali Night alongside Hugh Grant. This was followed by films like Shahenshah (1988) and Raakh (1999). In the early 1990s she took a break from acting and returned back to hindi cinema with Sarkar in 2005.

    In 1980 Supriya Pathak won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in Kalyug. In 1982 she won the same award for her role in Bazaar. In 2003, Supriya and husband both won awards at the M. T. R. Foods Indian Telly Awards for Best Actor in a Comic role. Supriya’s latest film was Dharm, which is a story of a Hindu priest who adopts a Muslim child and thus receives rage from the Hindu fanatics. In the film Supriya plays the devoted wife to Pankaj Kapoor, who plays the role of the Hindu priest. Supriya currently does a host of serials on television, the most talked about being the comedy, Khichdi.
