Sushant Singh Rajput was born in Patna where his father worked as a government official. He has four elder sisters and is the youngest sibling of the family. He was extremely good in studies, and ranked 7th when he appeared in All India Engineering Entrance Examination 2003. Thereafter, he took admission in Delhi College of Engineering. While in Delhi, Rajput joined choreographer Shiamak Davar's dancing academy and Barry John's theatre classes. After 3 years, he dropped out from his college to move to Mumbai and pursue his passion for performing arts.
In 2008, Rajput was spotted by Balaji Telefilms' casting team in a theatre play. He was asked to audition, following which he landed the role of Preet Juneja, the second lead in Star Plus' Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. The world of television embraced him as he became extremely popular for this role, and further bagged the role of Manav Deshmukh in the hit daily soap Pavitra Rishta. Rajput also received accolades for his dancing skills post his participation in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 where he finished second. Finally, in 2013, he made his Bollywood debut with Abhishek Kapoor's hit film Kai Po Che.
