The movie is about human relationships and emotions.
Manoj Vajpai plays the role of a middle class Maharashtrian Brahmin called Swami, who doesn't see life beyond his family. He doesn't have any wishes and dreams of his own. He just wants to fulfil the dreams of his family. Juhi Chawla plays the role of his wife. The movie spans about 30 years of Swami's life, from 30 to 60s.
Swami also explores the psyche of youngsters and why they ignore their elders. The trend that elders such as grandparents, parents and other elder family members become a source of embarrassment for youngsters, but how these same elders, their affection and wisdom is missed, once they are gone.
