Swastika Mukherjee (born December 13, 1980 in Kolkata) is a leading Bengali actress of the current decade. She is the daughter of actor Santu Mukherjee, a leading actor of the 70s and 80s in Bengali Cinema.
Swastika’s first brush with acting was in the film 'Hemanter Pakhi', where she had a very short role. But the first real role came in the TV serial Devdasi. After that she got a few offers from TV serials like 'Ek Akasher Niche' where her negative character received a lot of acclaim. Simultaneously she played a non-Bengali bride in a traditional Bengali family in the TV serial Pratibimbo. She got noticed through these roles
Her father never influenced her towards the profession and was not keen that she joined this profession.
Telefilm offers started pouring in and Swastika became a familiar face in the television industry. However when the film offers starting coming in she decided to retire from television for fear of over-exposure.
Swastika’s debut film, Mastan with Jeet as her co-star did well. She continued to make her way to the top in Tollywood with a steady string of releases, like Tobu Bhalobashi, Criminal and Saathi Hara.
She is often paired opposite Jeet and Prasenjeet.
She learnt dance from the veteran Tanushree Shankar.
She had a brief unsuccessful marriage with singer Pramit Sen and has a daughter Anwesha born in 2000.
