The story of the film revolves around two village kids, Gopal and his elder brother Nepal. They are the children of the poor village bramhin Kshudiram Bhattacharya. The kids sell Taal (Palm) to earn some money. Gopal’s friend Chuni tells them that Jyoti Pishi is going to celebrate Taalnabomi and has invited his family. Little Gopal asks Chuni whether Jyoti Pishi has any intention to invite them. Chuni informs him that Jyoti Pishi will invite the entire village. Nepal sees a business opportunity because Jyoti Pishi would need lots of Taals to make Taaler Bada (Palm Cakes) on Taalnabomi. But little Gopal thinks that if they will sell the Palms to Jyoti Pishi then she will never invite them. So, he collects some Palms before Nepal awakes on the morning and give them to Jyoti Pishi for free. But all his hopes shattered when he sees on the day of Taalnabomi that all the villagers are invited except them.
