TAHAAN: A boy with a grenade.
A simple cinematic tale.
Its very hard to make a simple film compared to a complicated film.A
simple tale needs to be told with powerful performances or great
thecnical moments. 'Tahaan' is an example of a good cinema as per
international standards.
'Tahaan' [Purav bhandare], stays in a valley of paradise- Kashmir. He
helps his grandfather [victor bannerjee], sister and dumb mother
[sarika]. He is attached to his donkey - birbal, and spends major time
with him. One day his grandfather passes away and Tahaan's world gets
shattered. His mother sells the donkey to pay their debts. Tahaan tries
all means to get his donkey back, but fails. Later the donkey is sold to a
trader [anupam kher], who along with his assitant [rahul bose] uses
the donkey for carrying goods. Tahaan tries to help them , in
return expecting to get back the donkey. Thus starts the journey of
love and inoccence.
The story is simple and short but the treatment is great. screenplay gets
full marks for creating good situations in the film. Scenes between
tahaan & trader, tahaan & donkey, donkey race, etc are mind blowing.
Camera work is of top notch quality. Santosh sivan has captured the valley
brilliantly.
As a director santosh sivan has done a remarkable job of telling a
simple tale. He has directed the film keeping in mind the
international audience and good cinema lovers.
Purav bhandare as Tahaan is brilliant. He is so innocent yet equally
confident. Another star wizkid has arrived. Anupam kher is fine. Rahul
bose is wasted. Sarika and victor bannerjee in their small roles are just about
fine.
So bol meri 'Filmi Khopdi' is film mein kitna hai dum.?
Dum hain, kaafi dum hain par niche audience ke liye hai. Masses might
not associate with this film, but its a must for all cinema lovers.
Sometimes its refreshing to watch a simple tale with great cinematic
touch.
