This is much more than just a children's film. Indeed children will connect to the sentiments of the tahaan, but not common children in big cities. Children in lonely places will connect to Tahaan. The love and camaraderie between an animal like a donkey and a lonely tahaan is very well reflected in the movie. And in the backdrop of troubled Kashmir, its security, its red-eyes, its small businesses, its male chauvenism, and of-course its irritating revenge-only mentality youth have been well reflected in the story.

The cinematography is simply superb, and all ... » read more

I like the film. It's short & sweet. Purav Bhandare aka Tahan acted so nicely. He is a talented actor.
very good direction & cinematography by Santosh Sivan.

Tahann lives with his grandfather, mother n sister in Kashmir, his father has been missing for over 3 yrs. After his grandfather's death, the local moneylender takes away the assets of the family including Tahan's beloved donkey Beerbal as repayment for a loan! Tahan sets off in search of his favorite Beerbal. In search of Beerbal Tahan experienced many things . and that 's how the story goes on.. » read more

TAHAAN: A boy with a grenade.

    A simple cinematic tale.

Its very hard to make a simple film compared to a complicated film.A
simple tale needs to be told with powerful performances or great
thecnical moments. 'Tahaan' is an example of a good cinema as per
    international standards.

'Tahaan' [Purav bhandare], stays in a valley of paradise- Kashmir. He
helps his grandfather [victor bannerjee], sister and dumb mother
[sarika]. He is attached to his donkey - birbal, and spends major time
with him. One day his grandfather passes ... » read more

Tahaan is a pleasing movie - a tale of a boy and his 'purpose' - told beautifully.
A very involving execution, brought alive by some performances.
You start feeling for the little boy, and his passion...and tnematography is brilliant.

I loved the 'story-telling sequence' by the grandfather (Victor Banerjee) and the grenade sequence...it made be sit at the edge of my seat and pray for Tahaan :)

    Truly deserves the 4 stars!

The best childrens’ films ive seen till date are Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par, Shekhar Kapoor’s Masoom & Majid Majidi’s Children of Heaven… This is the 4th movie in that list…

The movie reminded me a lot of the Mani Ratnam style of filmmaking (read…Dil Se…), probably bcos Santosh Sivan has worked soo much with Mani Ratnam, it has definitely had an impact on his style of filmmaking as well…

When a cinematographer turns director, the outcome is a pure visual delight. While capturing Kashmir on a lens, a director is sure to get carried away and drift into ... » read more

I am impressed by the cinematography and the story telling capacity of the Director. It is a very
interesting film without any star actor or actresses.Viewing this I had a very refreshing feeling
which will help me to look forward to do better things! » read more
