Tahir Hussain was born in India, but his family members were connected to the ethnic Pashtuns of Afghanistan. He was a descendant of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Tahir was the late producer-director Nasir Husain's younger brother. He acted in few films like Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Janam Janam Ka Saath and Pyaar Ka Mausam after which he turned production executive and worked on films like Teesri Manzil. He turned producer with Carvan, a super-duper hit. As a producer he has made films like Anamika (1973), Madhosh (1974), Zakhmee (1975), Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and Dulha Bikta Hai. Tahir had also directed his son Aamir in Tum Mere Ho.
He was married to Zeenat Hussain, who is also known as Zeena Hussan. They have 2 sons, Aamir and Faisal Khan.
He was staying at Aamir’s house after returning from grandson Imran’s engagement in Karjat recently when he suffered a cardiac arrest passed away on Feb 2, 2010. Aamir was at Los Angeles for the Sundance Film Festival with his film, Peepli Live and Imran Khan was shooting in New Zealand when he passed away. He also has a daughter, Farhat who lives in the US.
