My Rating

  • Gripping - the one word for the movie

Talaash rating: 0 out of 10(Debashis Goswami wrote on 02 Dec 2012)

Is Talaash a similar landmark Aamir Khan movie like Dil Chahta Hai or or Taare Zameen Par or 3 Idiots? Probabaly not. It is an out and out commercial movie with top commercial movie actors.

Does this mean it is disappointing? Not at all... It will surely rank as one of the best suspense movies of recent years. It will probably not leave you in tears and in somber mood like Taare Zameen Par but there are plenty of talking points about it when you are out of the cinema.

Inspector Shekhawat (Aamir) is one sad person. He is investigating an accident that is supposedly not an accident and at the same time he is battling the constant guilt feeling that he has because he holds himself responsible for his son's untimely accidental demise. (Roshni) Rani Mukerjee, the wife, tries her best to get him out of it but Aamir is somweher beyond where normal human thoughts venture.

Now enters Rosy (Kareena Kapoor), a sex worker. She tries to woo him but Shekhawat is too honest to get into a physical relationship. So, she ends up giving him vital leads to solve the mystery.

Yes, you may probably feel that the build up of the inspector's and Rosy's relationship takes a while but you will never get bored of it. The way Roshni handles the situation where she feels that he is into an extra marital relationship is also nice.

But what takes the cake is the climax. It will leave you on the edge of your seat. It makes you feel a part of the scene and this is where Talaash is different.

No item numbers, no unnecessary songs and no let up on the tension - the hallmarks of Aamir Khan movies are all there. The support cast does fantastically well and the way two parallel stories run while keeping you thinking that they will somewhere merge is outstanding. And yes, the parallel stories do come together in the end though they don't culminate into one.

Everyone has been going ga-ga over Talaash and for good reason. Watch it and you will love it. Watch it and you will think about it. Watch it and you will get great value for money.
