Tandra Barman was born in Singur, Hoogly on September 24th, 1940. Her father name was Narendranath Barman and mother Jamuna Devi.
She was a student of Chetla Girl’s School but could not continue her studies due to some family problems. She got her first break in the film “Dui Teer” directed by Plemendra Mitra, her father’s friend. But that film was stopped in the mid way. Then producer Gobinda Barman gave her a chance in the film “Bhije Beral”. That film did not get released also. Then she was introduced to actor-director Bikash Roy by publicist Famindra Pal. Roy gave her chance in “Keri Saheber Minshi” in 1961 and that was her first released film. Satyajit Ray took her in “Aparajita”. Her character was of Mili, Apu first lady love. The shooting was completed, but during editing Ray decided not to keep any female character in the film apart from Apu’s mother. So her role was deleted. She is married to Dijendra Kumar Bandopdhay. Tandra Barman is a mother of one son.
