Tanu Weds Manu story is based on arrange marriage. She loves to live a rebellious life, and can’t sacrifice her freedom for anything. She opposes when her family wants her to marry a groom of their choice. She is in love with Raja (Jimmy).
Manu (Madhavan), a prey of family pressures, who is a doctor in London, reaches Kanpur on a lookout for a bride. He is sweet and coy and an introvert. He has got everything to be a perfect husband. Manu fell in love, the very first time he came to Kanpur and met Tanu. But when Tanu asks him to turn down the marriage proposal, he does so. He continued his bride search, but gradually found out, that Tanu is the woman whom he loves and wants to marry only her. After sometime, they meet at a wedding ceremony held in Punjab, Kapurthala. And consequently, falls in love with each other.
They are very different from one another, but ultimately get married. Viewers can identify themselves with the characters, and Kangana who is found shrieking and shouting and playing eccentric roles generally, will be portraying a different character.
