Chandranath Sinha, an old and ailing patriarch of the Sinha family has three daughters and a son. The eldest daughter Indu (Rakhee) loves Dr. Sagar (Parikshit Sahni) and wants to marry him. Indu gets a big shock when her father passes away and the entire responsibility of her younger siblings come on her shoulders. She requests Sagar to postpone the marriage and they both decode to marry once the children grow up. Indu stars a school and takes care of her brother’s studies on her own. The brother Vinod (Asrani) becomes a graduate and finds a job. Vinod’s boss wants him to marry his only daughter on the condition that Vinod leaves his house and stays with his wife’s place. Indu, who was expecting Vinod to help her with the household and thus get married to Sagar, gets another shock when Vinod decides to leave her. How does Indu come to terms? Does she get married to Sagar? Will her Tapasya come true?
