    Tarun Kumar is a great Bengali actor of high repute .In most of his films, his role as a supporting actor has given him huge appreciation by movie lovers. Tarun Kumar was born on 24th February, 1931 in Kolkata . He was the youngest brother of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar . Tarun Kumar passed Matriculation from South Suburban School. Although he joined Ashutosh College, but he could not continue his studies. In his professional life, he used to work in Maclyod Company , Metro Cinema and then at Burn Company for few days. In 1962, he got married to actress Subrata Chatterjee and had a daughter. Tarun Kumar was a stage and professional theatre personality . His performance in “Notun Probhat “ directed by Tulsi Lahiri highly impressed director Ardhendu Sen. In 1954, he was the one who gave Tarun his first break In his film “Hrad”. He did a negative role in his first film. Dersho Khakar Kando(1959) , Abak Prithibi (1959) , Chupi Chupi ase (1960) , Dadathakur (1962) , Deoa Neoa (1963), Kal Tumi aleya (1966) , Chowringee(1968) are some of his memorable movies. His comic roles are more famous than any character played by him. He had also produced some films. He was also the founder member of Silpi Sansad and established Uttam Mancha. In south Kolkata, he largely contributed to the popularity of Tapan theatre . He used to perform comic shows with actor Satya Bandopadhay. He had worked with director Manu Sen as an Asssistant Director for two films. In 1960, he was awarded Best Supporting Actor by B.F.J.A for “Abak Prithibi”. In 1966, he got special note of appreciation from the President of India for his role in “Dadathakur”.
