    “Samapti” was the 2nd story of the 3 story film “Teen Kanya” made by Ray in 1961. The 3 short films (Post Master, Samapti & Monihaar) amounted to a single feature lengthed film. The film was produced by Satyajit Ray himself & all 3 stories were adapted from 3 short stories of the immortal Rabindranath Tagore. “Samapti” was unique, funny & sentimental in Character. It was all about the “love after marriage syndrome”, & Ray had discovered the heart of Tagore’s story.     The year 1961 marked the birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore. Ray celebrated it with a feature film as well as a long documentary. Many of Tagore's vast mass of short stories are finely created, and yet have an earthiness and humanity which has endeared them to a wide readership. Often they suffer when expanded to full-length features; the decision to treat them as short features is thus very apt.
