  • Tell me o Hema ji…Why? Why?

Tell Me O Kkhuda rating: 3 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 27 Oct 2011)

Almost two decades back Hemaji announced a Mega starrer film – Dil Aashna Hai with Jeetendra, Mithun, Dimple, Amrita Singh, Divya Bharti, Sonu Walia and a new comer who was star on Television – Shah Rukh Khan. The film’s concept was fine, but due to weak execution and bit dragging moments the film failed to make its mark at the box office. Then she made another film with her niece Madhoo – Mohini. Again the film had good concept but was very bad on execution and weak star cast. But in between she had directed two TV serials – Noopur and Women’s Of India, both had fantastic concept and very well directed. Noopur was her best work as it was based on her first passion – dancing, sadly the same was never witnessed in her movie. Now after a huge span she comes back with her latest film “Tell Me O Kkhuda” starring her daughter Esha Deol. The promos had huge relevance to Dil Aashna Hai, but when Hema ji was asked he denied the charges. So let’s find out if our audience’s first instinct is correct or Hema Ji is telling truth that the movie is not remake of her Dil Aashna Hai.
“Tell Me O Kkhuda” is story of Tania {Esha Deol} a promising writer staying with her Parents {Farooq Sheikh & Dipti Naval}. One day she finds out that she is adopted child and thus needs to find out here own identity. With support of her best friends Jai & Kuki {Arjan Bajwa & Chandan Roy Sanyal} she leaves for the search of her father. With help of Municipal Officer they land up at door steps of Rana Abhay Pratap {Vinod Khanna} followed by Altaf Zardari {Rishi Kapoor} and Tony {Dharmendra}. Who are Tania’s biological parents? Well that’s what the entire film about.

Story is different {As per Hema Ji}, but somehow I managed to find quite a few references with her debut directed film Dil Aashana Hai. Similarities like the girl in search of her parents {Difference – She is in search of father instead of mother}, She is supported by her friends, the finale leads to separated parents and many more. Also one can find the style of Mama Mia [especially in the wedding scene]. Screenplay hardly has anything to boost, scenes like Johnny Lever’s comedy scene, Rishi Kapoor’s emotional scene, Dharmendra drunk scene and… O Kkhuda looks like that’s it!! On the flip side the narrations is too slow and at times boring. The entire track of Esha, Arjan and Chandan looks fake and amateurish. Vinod Khanna‘s whole episode was bad and unconvincing, which also feature the foolish camel race with a Ra.One type of jump, The whole climax fight with Sharat Saxena was unwanted. Everything from Drama, Emotions, Soul, etc was missing and most important Shah Rukh Khan – Divya Bharti were missing. Camera work is fine and has some impressive visuals from Bangkok, Rajasthan, Turkey and Goa. Editing was weak and outdated. The movie seems to follow the snail pace which makes look the T.V serials too even faster.

Music by Pritam is average. Songs like Dikhe Na, Someone Somebody, Sargam and Tere Bina are quite average and at times unwanted. The end credit song featuring Salman Khan goes totally wasted.

If Hema Malini wanted to remake her own film, she should have at least hired some new talent or some director of today’s times. She has not directed a single movie in almost one and half decade and then suddenly directing this movie. Her direction was too weak and did not do justice to its subject. She should have played with Drama and Emotions, which were highly missing in this flick {Except for one or two scenes}. With such fine star cast she should had done wonders, sadly all she did was blunders.

Esha Deol should stop acting. She looks so manly and hardly has any oomph factor in her, Nor can she deliver a fine performance. Arjan Bajwa still acts like he is giving his debut film. Chandan Roy is average. Farooq Sheikh and Dipti Naval looked cute, but had very very small role. Vinod Khanna seemed totally disinterested in this film.. Rishi Kapoor did his best in his small role. Dharmendra tried his level best to give a Don type performance. Somewhere he succeeded but rests all places he was terrible. Hema Malini dint impress at all. Johnny Lever was funny. Madhoo, Richa, Mohan Bhandari, Gurbacchan, Sharat Saxena and Sudanshu Pandey were wasted.

So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai Dum ?

Bilkul Dum nahi hai, except for one or two scenes. If you are a Dharmendra, Hema Malini fan, then you might love to see them in one frame after ages and also with their daughter Esha for first time. But besides that there is nothing except a huge disappointment in this weak remake. At end I would like to ask – Tell Me O Hema Ji, Why? Why? Did you lie that the film has so resemblance of Dil Aashana Hai, Why? Why? Did you waste such good assembly of yesteryears stars in such Diminutive roles. Why? Why? You still want Esha to act. Why? Why? Did you take your audience for granted. You got to answer us or else remunerate us by promising that Esha will never act or try to act.
