  • ‘Genelia’ De Naal Paisa Vasool Ho Gaya…

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya rating: 6 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 24 Feb 2012)

Almost a decade back Maharashtra’s Chief Ministers son Ritesh Deshmukh debuted with Genelia D’Souza a fresh face from Telugu cinema in a low budget film ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’. The film failed to make its mark in big cities, but did reasonably well in some interior parts. They came back in Inder Kumar’s multi starrer ‘Masti’, Ritesh got noticed out here and started his Hindi career. Genelia on other side disappeared from Hindi films and became a big name down south. Her films like ‘Bommarillu’ made her heart throb out there and ‘Jane Tu Ya Jane Na’ out here. Many of Genelia fans started revisiting her debut Hindi film again and wished to see this Jodi back. And lo their wish got granted in form of ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’. But as they say everything has its price and out here it was marriage of this Jodi which made more news than the movie. The movie releases with Low promotions, Low budget, in news Jodi and a decent music score. So let’s find out if it will have a decent run or might go unnoticed like the debut film.

‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’ is story of Viren {Ritesh} who drives an auto rickshaw for living. He saves all his money and keeps them guarded in his driver’s seat. One fine day his Rickshaw owner Bhatti {Tinnu Anand} sells all his rickshaw and starts car transport business. Ritesh looses all his savings and blame Bhatti for his loss. In drunken state he comes to threaten Bhatti, who is busy getting his girl Mini {Genelia} married to an idiot. Mini wants to elope and thus takes the advantage of the situation and makes Viren kidnap her on gunpoint. What happens next is what the entire film about.

Story is short and one liner, it might remind you of few rom-coms. But it’s the screenplay and out here especially in the second half which keeps you interested in the film. The first half starts well with some good scenes but miss the punch. It’s the second half where the movie takes off like a rocket especially in Genelia scenes. The anti climax is bit dramatic and overdone. Scenes like Genilia interviewing her to be hubby, Genilia convincing Ritesh for kidnapping, Ritesh talking about his dad, Genilia chat with Om puri, Genilia teaching aerobics to pehalwans, Genilia dance and few more. On the flip side kidnapping scene, Genilia conning petrol pump guy, Ritesh drama, Ritesh-Genilia falling in love{needed some romantic scenes between them} , etc does not go with the film. Camera work is fine and gives the fresh looks with dash of Punjab/Haryana in the film. Editing could have been bit tight.

Music by Sachin Jigar is refreshing and melodious. Jeene De, Pee Paa, Tu Mohabatt Hai and Piya O Re Piya are superb. Even on hearing them for first time will give you a soothing feeling. The only bad track is Fann Ban Gayi {Item Song by Veena Malik}.

Debutant director Mandeep Kumar does a fine job over the comical part, but fails over the romantic part as he forgot that this movie is a Rom-Com and not just a comedy. In a Rom-Com one needs some light moments and few dramatic moments with dash of romantic scenes. The dramatic moments looked unconvincing as the film lacked over the romantic part. But with help of good screenplay and some witty dialogs + refreshing performance by Genelia keeps you smiling throughout the film.

Ritesh does a decent job in this film, but does not connect to its character of a north Indian. Genelia on the other side is like a rocket on fire. She sparks the film with her charm, fun loving attitude, smile and full on masti. Wished it to be bit more, especially in the first half. Om Puri gives a superb support. Tinnu Anand and Smita Jaykar does their part. Chitrashi Rawat and Rana Jung Bahadur are wasted.

So bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hai Dum?

Dum hai, total time pass fun hai. The movie despite of lacking romance part still entertains you with its funny moments, songs and fine performance by Genelia. It’s not an extra ordinary film, but yes with Genelia in it’s a paisa vasool {especially for the single screen audience}.
