    Thank You rating: 5 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 08 Apr 2011)

    Aneez Bazmi is a gifted writer who understands the funny nerve of the audience. Films like Swarg, Aakhen, Laadla, Deewana Mastana, Shola Aur Shabnam, Bol Radha Bol etc in 90’s were good example of it. Later he shifted his base to direction with some good entertainers like Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, Deewangi, No Entry, Welcome and Singh is King. All these films are enough reason for a movie lover to watch this writer-directors latest film – Thank You. To add more spice to it, the film has good assembly of stars like Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Irfaan Khan, Sunil Shetty, Sonam Kapoor and more. Along with these reasons the film also gets good benefit of start of summer vacations and the end of huge dry spell of movies due to cricket world cup. But as they say sometimes too many good things spoil the fun. Humm let’s see all these good reasons will work for the film or might fall flat?

    “Thank You” is story of three friends Raj {Bobby Deol}, Yogi {Sunil Shetty} and their boss Vikram {Irfaan Khan}. All of them are married but love to cheat over their respected wife’s. Raj’s wife Sanjana {Sonam Kapoor} trust him a lot and thus believe over all the lies he says. Vikram controls his wife Shivani {Rimi Sen} with his attitude and strict policies. Yogi has been caught red handed by his wife Maya {Celina} and this is a henpecked husband. A small incident gets Sanjana suspicious over Raj and thus with help of Maya they approach a private detective Kishen {Akshay Kumar} to find the truth. Kishen catches all of them not once, but over several incidents but every time the trio fools their wife’s and comes out clean handed. How does Kishen catch them and what happens next is all the film about.

    Story has loads of shades from Masti, Shaadi No 1 and more such films. But it’s the way the film written which acts as the plus point for the film, especially the first half of the film. The first half of the film is total hilarious, funny and entertainer. The entertainment voltage goes so high in the first half that when the second half starts and the dramatic part starts the entertainment graph drastically falls to the bottom. In between the entertainment part keeps coming, but as the movie progresses towards the climax the entertainment part vanishes in thin air along with the script and feel of the film. Some of the good scenes of the film are the basic intro of the three friends, Celina treatment to Sunil, Sonam and Rima catching Bobby and Irfaan with other woman {Kiss Na}, Akshay trapping Sunil, who later gets caught red handed, Irfaan and Bobby fooling Sonam Kapoor, Akshay as King gets confession from Irfaan and Bobby, The whole Irfaan-Rimi relationship, Rimi teaching lesson to Irfaan, Irfaan-Bobby-Sunil hiring Akshay to find him, All three catching Akshay and few more. But on the flip side the whole Bobby on T.V looked foolish, Rimi accepting Irfaan after the showdown, Bobby-Irfaan-Sunil not recognizing Akshay and his car number etc and most important the disappearance of entertainment in second half. The dramatic scenes do not go with the mood of the film and the anti climax drags on and on leading to a bland climax. If only they would had added some wonderful moments towards the end and got the film in the same mood as it was in the first half, the movie would had been a winner.

    Editing was highly required in the second half. Camera work is good and all the foreign locations look appealing.

    Music by Pritam is enjoyable; the basic tune is rocking and goes well with the film. Razia is total entertainer followed by Pyar Do and Full Volume. But Pyar Mein and Nain Mataka were not at all needed in the film as they do not go with the mood of the film and acts as a dragging point in the film.

    Aneez Bazmi’s has loads of good and successful films in his credits, but his last film ‘No Problem’ was a tourcher and probably worse film of his, succeeding ‘Sandwich’. The problem with ‘No Problem’ was all the jokes and gags looked forced and over done. The slapstick comedy seemed hamming and the intelligent humor was missing. Out here in Thank You none of these things are repeated and that shows in the first half which is total entertaining. The first half matches with credibility of Aneez ‘s successful films. But the second half is total bland, low on entertainment value and at times simply boring. He could had used the character of Irfaan, Rimi, Sunil more in the film than focusing on boring bobby deol and sonam kapoor. When you watch the second half you feel you are watching a film which might have been directed by Aneez’s assistant and not aneez. It’s high time Aneez you start giving your 100% to all your films or else you will have more of ‘No Problem’.

    Akshay Kumar has been struggling with his last many films to get back in form. He has mastered in his comical timing, and thus out here too he succeeds in those scenes, but we know he has more to offer. Irfaan Khan is rocking as the main brain behind the wife cheaters. Scenes between him and Rimi are fantastic. Even towards the flat climax it’s the Irfaan's timing which makes you laugh. Sunil Shetty is another gem in a very small role, his character should have been more established. Celina was average. Rimi Sen was superb. Sonam Kapoor looked good in some scenes but when it came to act struggled a lot. Bobby was the weakest actor amongst all the other male actors. The only part he did best was singing songs and fighting. Mukesh Tiwari, Ranjeet and others did their part perfectly.

    So bol meri ‘Filmi Kopdi’ is film mein kitna hai dum ?

    Dum hai first half mein poora dum hai, infect total dumdaar hain. I just enjoyed the first half and wished to have the same in the second half , but Aneez and his team dint give me the opportunity to thank them for a good and entertaining second half. The overdose of songs, drama and climax with message did not go well with the first half. We still thank the team for entertaining us in the first half and request or rather warn the makers that please don’t make it a habit of making a half baked films again and again or else you guys will have loads of ‘problem’.

    Ratings : 2.5+/5 {Specially for its first half}
