Municipality Ghatkopar ( Master Shams) : He is 12 yrs. He got his odd sounding name as he was found abandoned outside the Municipality Hospital in the suburbs of Ghatkopar. He hates his name and believes that one day his parents will come searching for him at the hospital. He visits the hospital every week with a bottle of liquor for the old gatekeeper of the hospital to check with him if somebody came looking for him.
Cutting ( Master Fayaaz) : He is 10 yrs. He belongs to that majority of street kids who are left to live on streets by parents who can't afford to bear the expenses of bringing them up. Cutting, in local jargon means a half cup of tea. Usually kids employed by roadside vendors & businesmen are addressed by this name. Kids like Cutting constitute the vast number of child labors in cosmopolitan cities.
Dhed - Shaana ( Master Jaffer) : He is 8 yrs. He name in local jargon means over-smart. This is another peculiar fact of lives of these kids from the ghettos of Mumbai. They are always being addressed by some generic derogatory names like the ones our protagonists have and thus they gradually lose all the legitimate chances to live & grow up as a healthy, sociable human being.
Supari ( Master Almas) : She is 10 yrs. A runaway kid again but fortunately managed to stay on the streets with her friends. Usually girls like her are lured and then sold straight to the cheap brothels thriving in the dingy lanes of metropolis.
Soda ( Master Salman) : He is 14 yrs. A runaway kid who is street smart and known all the right and wrong ways to survive in the cruel city which gives a damn to their existence. Making money is all he ever cares about.
A 12 years old street kid named Municipality, while on the run from the reformatory, finds & saves a two day old abandoned baby from becoming the prey to a ferocious street dog. Falling to find any takers among the people whom he deemed responsible and respectable, Municipality takes up the onus of finding the mother of that abandoned baby himself. Here onwards ensues his struggle in the urban jungle of Mumbai with just four of his friends from the street, Soda (15 yr), Sursuri (10 yr), Cutting (8 yr) & Dhed_Shaana (6 yr) on his side and apparently the whole world against him. Municipality's rock steady determination ultimately helps him emerge a winner against all odds as he reaches that baby's mother but in bargain he loses his most precious possession... the flawless & god-like image of a mother he used to see in his dreams and probably the hope that he'll ever find his own mother come searching for him at the Municipality Hospital where he was found abandoned 12 years ago.
