My Rating

  • The Dullest Movie I’ve Ever Seen

The Brown Bunny rating: 0 out of 10(Anonymous wrote on 13 Apr 2010)

    Name: The Brown Bunny
    Genre: Utter Boredom
Running Time: 1 hour and 29 minutes of yawn

Yes, 1 hour and 29 minutes of mind-numbing non-action, until the last scene where the apparent heroine finally makes an appearance to give the hero a blowjob. (The words hero and heroine are not to be take in their literal meaning because there was nothing valorous about either of them.)

It was this scene of explicit, and ugly, fellatio – where the actress actually takes the actor in her mouth and makes him orgasm – that has made The Brown Bunny one of the most controversial films of the modern times. The movie – written, directed, produced and acted in by Vincent Gallo – was premiered at Cannes in 2003. It was then called one of the worst films ever shown at Cannes.

The story, or what little of it there is, is about a Bud Clay, a motorcycle racer. Bud Clay could have been a carpenter or a plumber and it wouldn’t have made any difference. Bud loses a race and sets about on a cross-country drive, going to California for another race, but looking for his former lover, Daisy. So we are treated to over an hour of close-ups of Bud’s face as he drives around USA, meets a couple of girls who he kisses and leaves (no explanation about how or why) and picks up a hooker to have lunch with. All this while, we are shown glimpses of American roads (through Bud’s windshield), and as we try to fight off the yawns, we hope Bud reaches his destination soon so that we can just go to sleep. In fact, I doubt if anyone who didn’t know about the fellatio would have even watched the whole movie.

In the end, we are told via a quick flashback scene that Daisy was raped and murdered, and Bud is haunted because he couldn’t save her. And the fellatio turns out to be Bud’s dream. Now, isn’t that quirky? Dreaming about your dead ex giving you a blowjob, crap! And why brown bunny in the title? Because Daisy had one in her childhood, that’s it, no other reason.

The Brown Bunny is benumbing. Even writing about it has bored me, I feel like I need to go… zzzz…
