    Statutory Warning:
I do not write film reviews for a living and hence what you read (if you bother to read) will not be an “Adarsh” review but views of a fanatic who has enjoyed big screen from 5 metres many a times.

“Dirty Picture” took me back to my childhood... err college days, I must say when my popular destination with the saved pocket money used to be the little known (rather pretended to be little known since I have seen many known faces make a visit) Chhayas, Khannas, Pradips, Bhawanis, Bidhushrees... in between the D grade Hollywood stuff, there ... » read more

Focuses On The 'Dirt' In Our Minds

The Dirty Picture rating: 9 out of 10

Expectations for this movie were totally 'Tharki'. The nation was set on fire since the trailer was launched. Vidya Balan is the hot topic in every corner for her flaunts and oomph. Emraan's something new avatar was also noticed. Shortly, people who were keen to see 'The Dirty Picture' were either waiting to see what Vidya had still to show or some very delicate people were impressed by the centralized theme of the movie.

Silk Smitha was a heartthrob of her time, not for her acting but her skin-show and sex-appeal. Describing her life is nothing so important as ... » read more

Item songs in our film industry are not new phenomena as it has been termed. Just change the name to Cabaret Song or Dance Number or Disco Song, etc and we will find loads of such songs in our Hindi films originating from 60’s or 70’s era. The earlier era used them for songs at some Party or Hotel Show, etc followed by Dance at Villains Den or Seducing the Hero. Songs and dances performed by Helan, Fariyaal, Bindu, Kalpana Iyer and many more have worked many times in the film as a star attraction. People watched them, enjoyed them and remembered them only for these songs ... » read more

The Dirty Picture: What's not so dirty about it?

The Dirty Picture rating: 0 out of 10

I watched The Dirty Picture sitting in the rear stall of Roxy Cinema amongst a raunchy, unsophisticated crowd whistling suggestively at every drop of the pallu and every hard-hitting dialogue! The 80s were exuberantly revived in the theatre as well as a marvellously uninhibited Vidya Balan bosom-thrust the narrative forward in a believably recreated well-known and often disparaged cinematic garishness of that decade. I was too small to have been to the theatre in the 80s; my first-hand experiences of the cinema hall had begun after the mid-90s, when multiplex comfort could ... » read more

    It's Vidya's movie!

The Dirty Picture rating: 7 out of 10

    By Dharmender Yadav(27 Mar 2012)

This movie is inspired by the life of the late south Indian actress Silk Smitha. The first half of the movie is fast paced and interesting. Very captivating to see how a conventional looking girl-next-doors, defying all conventions, becomes a sex siren. The movie starts to drag in the second half. It could have been made lot crisper by reducing run time by 30 minutes with some good editing. Vidya Balan is superb in her role. Emraan Hasmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Tusshar Kapoor does justice to the roles assigned to them. The biggest attraction of the movie, in my opinion, ... » read more

    The Dirty Picture :Ooh..La…La…Vidya Balan

The Dirty Picture rating: 8 out of 10

“The Dirty Picture” loosely based on the life of Silk Smitha is a Vidya Balan film all throughout. The story is of Reshma (Vidya Balan) a girl from a small village and her journey from ordinary extra in tamil films to becoming “Silk” the most sought after item girl in Tamil Films, her relationship with various men from super star Shashikant (Nasseruddin Shah) to his brother Ramakanth (Tushar Kapoor) and the man who hated her the most Abraham (Emraan Hashmi), her rise to fame and her downfall.

The script and screenplay by Rajat Arora is the highlight of the movie, ... » read more

    The Dirty Picture review

Though I had not expected much; having seen Silk Smitha in Sadma (doing full justice to her reputation), and a few other snippets on channels in our days down South, Vidya seemed a sad choice. Because to create Silk’s sultry face, the ‘come hither’ eyes or those ‘kiss me’ lips, was not possible unless one had looks like that. But what Vidya lacked in the face, she more than made up in her ‘attitude’; because at the end of the day ‘sex’ or ‘oomph’ is largely about attitude. The movie is another ‘rise and fall’ story, and having claimed to be nothing more than that, is a ... » read more
