  The story is supposedly based on the life of South Indian Sensation Silk Smitha, Silk was a make-up artist who became an extra and then one of the most wanted heroines of the early 1980's. Chronicling the meteoric rise and steep fall of the erstwhile screen sensation, The Dirty Picture is set against the colorful and entertaining backdrop of the South Indian film industry, which was dominated by the male superstars in the 80s.
  
  The quintessential siren, Silk, knew her audiences and it didn’t seem like anything would stop the ambitious superstar, till it did, in the form of unrequited love. To the world and her fans, Silk was the queen of sensuality. But at heart, she was just like any other woman yearning for love in a ruthless world. The movie is about the tragedy behind the mask of the sex symbol who provided titillation to thousands of viewers but died a lonely and tragic death.
  
  Balaji Motion Pictures, the producers however have denied that the movie is based on Silk Smitha's life.
