This is for the first time director Aparna Sen has tried with someone else’s story for her feature film. Her latest release “The Japanese Wife” is based on an English story of the same name by Kunal Bose. The film is in Bengali, in spite of that Mrs. Sen has kept the title of her film same. Till date the basic theme-line of all the films of hers, was unequal friendship. Composer of this movie Sagar Desai got a Japanse musician on board for the background score. The japanese instrumentalist (Koto player) Miyama came to India for the recording. Miyama also sung a japanese love poem in the background as singing is an essential accompaniment for the instrument (Koto).
This is Aparna Sen's first movie shot abroad, if we don't consider Bhutan (for 15 Park Avenue) and first movie with a foreign actor.
