There's a certain section of cine-goers who prefer different cinema over typical masala Bollywood movies. So if you feel you fall under this elite category, then Last one month must have been a film festival of sorts for you as since the last few weeks, we have been experiencing a very different type of Cinema and ‘The Last Lear’ is a pleasant addition to that list.

'The Last Lear' is the story of Harry [Amitabh Bachchan] an aging stage
Actor with immense love for Shakespeare and for whom Acing is more than
    passion. ... » read more

To be very frank, The Last Lear will be remembered for things. One, Acting and two, Cinematography.

Recently released Rituporno Ghosh’s The Last Lear is not inspired by Utpal Dutt’s “Ajker Sajahan” but almost cinematic translation of that Bengali play with addition of a few characters like Bandana enacted by Shefali Shah. As the Bengali version “Ajker Sajahan” didn’t have any connection with D. L Ray’s “Shah Jahan”, here also there is no connection with William Shakespeare’s “King Lear”. Only we come to know that Harish Mishra wanted to act as King Lear which ... » read more

I think the hype sort of makes you expect a lot from a movie, so i too was expecting too much...........but was slightly disappointed...........yes it is not a normal masala movie, that we all know, but to make a different movie too, there has to be a connect with the audience, which i think i missed..........amitabh as usual was superb, brilliant.........arjun rampal was very good too.........he fitted the role of a director very well............jishu was also quite good...........the background score was was like watching a play where lights and sound ... » read more

All right... my first Rituparno movie... and didnot quite got the hang of it... well to justify the movie by saying that Amitabh was good would be injustice to the man. I mean cummon when is he not good... well maybe from his personal perspective this part would have been different and challenging and he lived unto it. After all he is Amitabh Bachchan. But overall, the movie clearly is not meant for mainstream cinema. I mean I have nothing against offbeat cinema; some of my all time favorites also fall into this category like Katha, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, to name a few; ... » read more

The film was a welcome change after Rituparno's previous film Antarmahal which was a film bereft of aesthetic qualities.. Amitabh Bachchan's acting skills are unsurpassed.. There is no definite linear storyline, but the narrative technique used is the most popular one now - going to and fro with the various voices of the film/story.. All of them finally add up to make the plot.. The name of the film sows a certain kind of idea in the mind about the film - the audience expects a Shakespearean plot or at most an Elizabethan theme.. This play in spite of its many other positive ... » read more
