    The New Cinema is Coming……….

Last year we had a good combination of commercial as well as meaningful cinema. This year starts with a Hinglish film “The President is coming”. The director has made this film with a style of documentary with good combination of intellectual humor, thus the end result is something different called as ‘Mockumentary’. So will this year too be as good as last one?
Well we will find that later and lets move ahead to know about this film which surely is one of its kind.

“The President is coming” shows us the visit of U.S President George Bush’s visit to India. The President desires to shake hand with one Indian youth. Thus Samantha Patel [Shernaz Patel] and Ritu Johnson [Shivani Tanksale] starts a hunt program to find the youth with whom the president can shake hands. Six youngsters are finalized for the final selection round in U.S Consulate. The final selected contestant are Maya Roy [Konkana Sen Sharma] a Novel writer, Archana Kapoor [Ira Dubey] a Wealthy girl with beauty hangover, Ramesh S [Namit Das] a I.T Nerd, Rohit Seth [Vivek Gomber] a Accent trainer in BPO, Kapil Dev [Anand Tiwari] a Stock broker and Ajay Karlekar [Satchit Puranik] a social worker. Samantha and Ritu start the selection of candidate with all sort of test and how do they find the winner is worth watching.

Story is simple mixture of Facts and Fiction. Screenplay is good and witty. The way film revel all the characters and their inner side is good and keeps you engrossed in the film. Dialogs are witty and intelligent. Though at some times the film becomes stagnant, but after few minutes you are back enjoying it. Camera work is simple and has been shot in style of Documentary to give the movie a documentary type of looks. Background Music is good and works in favor of the film.

Director Kunal Roy Kapoor has done a great job of making such kind of film. It’s a perfect mockery of how our youth are influenced with the U.S culture and fad. His way of story telling is unique and something different.

On performance basis all the actors have done their part with full justice. Shernaz Patel and Shivani were perfect for their part of role as the selectors. Konkana carries her role with an ease. Namit Das has done a good job as an IT nerd. Satchit Puranik and Anand Tiwari have delivered a superb performance with being in character. Vivek Gomber and Ira Dubey were average.

So Bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mei kitna hain dum ?

Dum hain, kaafi dum hain aur thoda different bhi hain. This film is total feel good light entertainer with good performances by the less known actors. Though the Masala movie lovers might not get attracted to this flick, but people with taste for good cinema will love it. Let’s hope in this New year we keep getting such New type of cinema and make Bollywood expand its reach to different level.

Ratings : 3.75 [.25 extra for being the first kind of this cinema] of 5.
