No doubt such kinds of movies are mostly likable to kids, but don’t know why magic always wonders me. And that’s why the story related to adventure, fantasy, with some comedy and some supernatural involved it, always fascinates me.
Although this film is being inspired from its original version which was being released is 2002, but don’t know how much it is being inspired or copied as I haven’t watched that movie yet, and I guess most of us are with me. But anyways, this movie is a very good entertaining movie and it will surely amaze you in its own way, if and only if you are good lover of magical and fantasies kind of movies.
There is one evil lady called Morgana who is willing to destroy the whole world with his evil magical powers with the help of his sorcerer Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) is a master Sorcerer of the modern day, and with his love partner Veronica (Monica Bellucci) who is also a Sorcerer, both were on the battle field to stop Morgana. These all of them were learned from their master, who was then killed by Morgana and Horvath. But then later on Balthazar trapped Morgana and Horvath in jar, but before this Morgana transfer her spirit inside the soul of Veronica, and by this Morgana and Veronica both were trapped in the jar by Balthazar.
This was the initial 10mins of the film, explained the whole in short. And then the real movie begins, when before their master was dying, he gave one dragon ring to Nicolas and said that one young little boy, when this ring will automatically fit him, he would be your apprentice and he would be the only person who will kill the evil lady Morgana, would save the world, and will free Veronica from her. After searching for so many years Nicolas has found him, Dave (Jay Baruchel), he was very shy in nature, little bit of lack of confidence inside him, does not believe in himself, in his potential, and etc. but he was having one good quality in him, that he was the master of physics, science and energy. He was soon getting trained by his sorcerer’s, the power of magic and energies. Soon at the end of the movie he got confidence, belief in himself, got the girl which he was in love, and thus by this, with some magic in his hand and his knowledge of some physics and science, he finally killed Morgana.
The plot was simple, but it was presented very nicely. The visuals and graphic effects were shown good. Some of the scenes were old and copied from the Mickey Mouse cartoon. But still it was somewhat funny, and had made you atleast smile in those scenes. The magic’s, the powers, and etc scenes were just simple great picturized.
Direction by Jon Turteltaub was good enough. He also had given us good films like National Treasure 1 & 2. And I think that’s why he had chosen Nicolas Cage in a lead role here. But as far as by the performance side, he was as perfect as he is any of the film. The young boy, Jay Baruchel was good enough and showed up fine to be as shy and less confidence guy. Alfred Molina was great as villain, as we had already seen his charm in Spiderman 2. And rest including Dave’s girlfriend, Monica Bellucci had a very short role but though convincing, and that Morgana and others were all just fine and good.
Though this film is enjoyable to kid more, rather than to adults, but still for the adults it’s not boredom. As many would think that the film is nothing new and it’s the same old repetitive kind of theme and overall look, but all in all, it’s not that bad, it’s not that boredom, it’s entertaining, enjoyable, great adventure, cool fantasies, and a fun to watch.
