There was a 'Contractor' and timber businessman in the tea garden of the Dooars. Chanchali ,a local girl, often gave him flowers but that did not interest him. Roybahadur Abani Halder was supposed to visit his tea garden. His daughter Latika, also came along with him. Roy Bahadur would have been dead that day if the 'contractor' did not save his life by stopping the Hackney carriage in time. The horse of the carriage suddenly went mad.The inhabitants of the garden hated Abani Halder as they knew that Abani had sent the wife of his elder brother Bihari Halder to a lunatic asylum after his death and seized their property. He did not even make any provision for their helpless child. After reaching the bunglow, Roy Bahadur summoned the contractor who had saved their lives. But the contractor did not come ,his attendant Sukhen came. Sukhen said his boss was very busy. Listening about the Contractor from Sukhen, Latika wanted to see the Jungle with him, but Abani did not allow it. At the dead of night the contractor went to the bungalow with a rifle in his hand. He aimed at Roy Bahadur from a distance, but the moment he was about to press the trigger his inner conscience stopped him from doing that . He returned silently. One day Aabani Halder and Latika came to the contractors bungalow. They became captive of the contractor. Eventually Roybahadur found that the Contractor was no other than the son of his elder brother. Latika made him understand that revenge begot only revenge. Again the son of Bihari Halder was defeated by his conscience. In the end Abani also understood his past mistakes and the Contractor got back his identity in the tea garden as Matilal Halder.
