    “Thodi Halki Thodi Fulki...”

Yash Raj films are known for their romantic movies with family entertainment. Unfortunately their last few movies failed to fit in this category. ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ the above banners latest offering attempts to fit in the clean family entertainment category, but with a touch of simplicity and feel good cinema.

‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ is a story of Ranbeer {Saif Ali Khan}, an orphan but successful business tycoon. One unfortunate incident changes his life. He meets with an accident and a couple is killed. When the case comes in the court the judge feels instead of punishing Ranbeer, he passes the custody of the couples four kids {Vasisth, Iqbal, Aaditi & Avantika} to Ranbeer and is ordered to take care of the kids and keep them happy or face punishment. Ranbeer along with his girlfriend Mallaika {Ameesha} fails to connect with the orphan kids who hate’s Ranbeer. These are bad and everyone prays for help from god. God {Rishi Kapoor} hears their cries and send his favourite Angel Geeta {Rani Mukherjee}. Geeta enters the house to make a bond of love between the kids and Ranbeer. With the entry of Geeta starts the journey filled with emotion, fun, drama and love.

Story of this movie is highly influenced with few Hindi and Hollywood movies, but with its own touch. Though the story is simple and hardly has anything extra ordinary to offer. The screenplay is weak and many cinematic liberties are taken. Scenes like Geeta’s use of magic in museum, Mallaika’s pool party and the romantic angle in the climax. More detail was expected in these scenes as they spoil the fun of the film. Cinematography was good. Editing was fine but needed to chop some scenes in first half of the film and the hurried climax.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music is not matching the style of music director and Director Kunal Kohli. But songs like “Lazy Lamhe”, “Nihaal ho gaya” are good. Couple of songs can be trimmed. Background music of the film is good and matches with the feel of the film, especially in the emotional scenes.

Director Kunal Kohli has played a safe bet with mixture of old movies and a simple plot. But one can feel the directors touch in the emotional scenes, which are good. Few scenes like Ranbeer watching the orphans dreams, Ranbeer’s scene with Iqbal, the loner life of Ranbeer are really heart touching. The best thing about the movie is emotional and humor keep moving in the background with the pace of the film. Though some judgement of director was pinching, like Geeta wearing a same dress in the entire film? Geeta’s use of magic and still no mention of angle, the hurriedly climax with the romantic angle, etc. This movie did need more relation bonding between the orphans and Ranbeer & Ranbeer and Geeta.

All the kids in this movie were good. But special mention to the kid called “Iqbal” he was so sweet and his scenes with Ranbeer were of top notch. Ameesha was fine as a dumb lover. Rishi Kapoor’s role was too small and needed more. Razak Khan, Mahesh Anand, Sharat Saxena were wasted. Rani was fine but the role was not something extraordinary. With only single dress and less scenes one does feel unsatisfied as watching the promos we feel it’s a Rani’s Films but its not. This movie belongs to Saif Ali Khan; he suits the character and slips easily in it. His screen presence, emotional bonding with kids were great.

So….”bol meri ‘Filmi Khopdi’ is film mein kitna hain dum???”

Hain acha khaasa dum hain, par climax and kutch kutch jagaah pe total kam hain. Excluding the few cinematic liberties, hurried climax, etc this movie is a light hearted family entertainment and leaves us with smile at many points. “Thodi Halki Thodi Fulki...”

    Rating – 3 of 5
