Thodi Life Zyada Tragic
In the recent past, there have been too many movies which have been made under the disguise of experimental cinema, but which have failed to send the cash registers ringing, leave alone please the audience. Producer Saahil Chaddha tries to cash in on YRF’s similar titled film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic which releases simultaneously, but the attempt fails miserably.
Thodi Life Thoda Magic is the story of Naina (Meera Vasudevan) who is going through a rough patch with her beau Roshan ( Arbaaz Khan) . She along with a colleague Siddharth (Saahil Chaddha ) plan a reality show for which they hire a vagabond MK ( Jackie Shroff) as anchor. MK is instrumental in resolving the problems of various individuals through this show and very soon becomes the hero of the town. However, it dawns upon Naina and Siddharth that MK is being exploited by certain people to achieve their own goals. MK is unaware of the same and continues to solve issues of common people, until he realizes that he suffers from some illness.
The director Anand Rai fails to convey the pathos of the characters on screen and hence the story does not have any Impact or connection with the audience at all. Equal blame is to be shared by the screenplay writers as they are unsuccessful in justifying the characters and the ongoings. More emphasis should have been given in dwelling into the psyches of the protagonists .Also, the continuity of the film is hampered due to poor editing. Music too is no great shakes to write home about and more often than not is irrelevant.
As far as performances go, it’s sad that despite having Jackie Shroff in the cast and Meera Vasudevan ( who somewhat proved her calibre in Rules ) the director is unable to extract the best out of them. Saahil Chaddha and Arbaaz Khan don’t help either.
Overall, a film which can very much be given a miss, cause there’s no special magic…. U begin to feel only tragic.
