To be honest, I was disappointed with the film. After watching Satyajit Ray's Feluda, this film has too many shortcomings. The first half of the film, as long as it was in Baikunthapur, was gripping. However, Sandip Ray seemed to have lost the plot in the elation of shooting in Hong Kong. There was a moment where only a restaurant kitchen was shown. There was no purpose and it was totally out of context. I'm sure the senior Ray wouldn't have done this.
Biswajit Chakraborty as Mr. Somani didn't look non Bengali at all. His accent was too Bengali to be convincing. The so called millionaire art collector in Hong Kong looked anything but himself. He looked more of a local hoodlum. And I don't think a cheque is the suitable mode of exchange for transacting 3 million dollars for a stolen art work. And I cannot for the love of god fathom how someone with 35 years of experience of buying paintings could be duped so easily.
Parambrato hardly had anything to do. Sabyasachi was good, as he can be. But age is catching up with him. Do we have a replacement, just in case... Bibhu Bhattacharya provided some lighter moments and his part was one of the brighter points of the film.
Starting with a good plot, the film turned out to be a mere action film by the time it ended. Overall, you can give the film a pass. Sandip Ray has to do something special in the forthcoming Feluda series.
