    Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 4 out of 10(Divya Solgama wrote on 19 Feb 2010)

    In 80’s and 90’s we had loads of simple, sweet films which were meant for only family viewing. Majority of them were highly inspired by South Indian films and also had directors from South making the film. These movies were made with the backdrop of simplicity and humor. Slowly the humor became big in Hindi films and simplicity changed to modern and extra ordinary. But still every year we have a small film which still are made on these values keeping in mind the small audience for such kind of films.

    “Toh Baat Pakki?” is story of House wife Rajeshwari {Tabu} who lives with her Husband {Ayub Khan} and kids. Her only worry is to find a suitable match for her younger sister Nisha {Yuvika}. She meets Rahul {Sharman Joshi} who is studying Engineering and also looking out for a rented place. Rajeshwari allows Rahul to stay with them and plans out opportunities for Rahul and Nisha to get along and finally both falling in love with each other. Rahul asks Nisha’s hand for marriage and Rajeshwari agrees to it, but next day she meets Yuvraaj who had successful job and house and finds him much superior to Rahul. Thus Rajeshwari cunningly removes Rahul from the house and gets Yuvraaj in and in similar manner fixes up the engagement of Yuvraj and Nisha. But Rahul is not as easy person as Rajeshwari thought, Rahul decides to win Nisha’s hand back but in his own style, leading to some good fun.

    Story is simple and reminds you of early Priyadarshan movies. Screenplay is slow in first half, but becomes interesting and enjoyable in the second half. Though the climax could had been less filmy. Dialogs are nice and witty. There are some good enjoyable scenes in the film. Particularly between Tabu and Sharman Joshi. Camera work is quite ordinary and so is Music. Except for Jis din mera, all other songs are to be forgettable. This is the biggest negative point in the film.

    Director Kedar Shinde has made the film directly from the heart and thus in first few minutes you might find the film slow and simple, but as we movie ahead the movie grips you with an unusual theme reminding you of the movies made in past and some good simple cinema. He could had avoided the filmi climax which looked out of the place and also should had worked more on the music of the film.

    It’s great to watch Tabu in a role which reminds you of Rekha-Sridevi type housewife roles. She is so much in the character and has done total justice to her role. You will love her performance and character in the film. Sharman Joshi starts slowly but gains the momentum in second half and shows his comic timing at the right time. Ayub Khan as the supportive husband is good and Yuvika as the bride looks pretty. Rest all inc Vatasl Seth, Himani Shivpuri, Sharat Saxena, Upasana Singh and others are quite average in their performances.

    So bol meri “Filmi Khopdi” is film mein kitna hai dum ?

    Dum hain, acha dum hain, but simple and sweet type film hain. Nothing extra ordinary in the film, but thanks to Tabu-Sharman Joshi you can enjoy the film and have some smiles while watching it. But some weak direction and bad music makes the negative point for the film. Thus the movie is kutch kutch pakki and kutch kutch kacchi, but on overall basis a simple and decent watch.

    Ratings – 3/5 {for Simplicity, Tabu and Sharman}
