Toh Baat Pakki! is not like every other movie you see in the theater these days. It has got no Khan power or any other bankable hero and one of the heroines is hardly seen on big screen these days and the other one is hardly known.

So, you walk into the theaters to watch Toh Baat Pakki! with minimum expectations and you come out pleasantly surprised! It's not a big budget movie, but it's definitely a movie made with a big heart, meant to entertain without any stupid jokes or resorting to loud, slapstick comedy. It transports you to the era of Hrishikesh Mukherjee ... » read more

In 80’s and 90’s we had loads of simple, sweet films which were meant for only family viewing. Majority of them were highly inspired by South Indian films and also had directors from South making the film. These movies were made with the backdrop of simplicity and humor. Slowly the humor became big in Hindi films and simplicity changed to modern and extra ordinary. But still every year we have a small film which still are made on these values keeping in mind the small audience for such kind of films.

This film is more of like a comeback for all the cast and crew members. Tabu came after a long time; her last film was “Cheeni Kum” which was released in 2007. Ayub khan as her husband came in a film after about 2yrs; his last film was some B grade or something “Pehli Nazar Ka Pyaar” (2008). Again now Vatsal Seth, he came in “Paying Guest” which was released last year at 2009. And the lead actress Yuvika Cahudhry has just done two films. In Om Shanti Om she was just a side character, came for few mins; and next in Summer 2007 which was released in 2008. All except Sharman ... » read more

Toh Baat Pakki this week’s one of two releases, is a romantic comedy with a twisted arrange marriage story. The film stars veteran Tabu along with Sharman Joshi, Vatsal Sheth, Ayub Khan, Himani Shivpuri and Uvika Chaudary. Seeing Tabu onscreen itself is often incentive enough to go watch the film but a film like TBP has difficulty drawing audiences given its lack of publicity and conventional star power and unfortunately about 20 minutes into the film is all it takes to tell you that this one’s not worth a trip to the big screen even for Tabu!
The story revolves ... » read more

Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 5 out of 10

Kedarh Shinde, the director’s efforts are appreciable only at few instances. Watching Tabu is pleasure & pleasant view. She looks simple & it’s really hard to move your eyes away from screen when she is there. As always, Sharman is always appreciated. Vatsal Sheth did nice job. Yuvika did not get much scope in the film. Likewise, Ayub Khan’s role was passable. Himani Shivpuri & Suhasini Mulay’s roles were simply fair. Upasana Singh’s role was as usual loud.
Tabu is a pleasure to watch. She’s natural and it must be said that it gets difficult to move your eyes when ... » read more

In a time of hyper comedies, director Kedar Shinde opts to make a light comedy around mentality and behavior of simple middle class families. In doing so he takes cue from yesteryear’s decent comedies made by the giants of filmmaking. Alright so far, but a lot depends on the narrative and characterization, which eventually makes a film watchable…

Rajehwari (Tabu) is happily married to Surendra (Ayub Khan) and lives in a quiet hill station. Very extrovert, she is also looking for a suitable and secured “Saxena” groom from UP for her younger sister Nisha (Uvika ... » read more

Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 4 out of 10

    By Ravi Chawla(04 Mar 2010)

The storyline is predictable right from the beginning.A typical middle class wife who is married to Vinay (Ayub Khan), dreams of getting her sister Nisha (Yuvika Choudhry) married to the most suitable boy in the Saxena community. The lady hates the dowry system. She comes across Rahul (Sharman Joshi), an engineer student and wishes that Nisha gets married to him. Predictably, Nisha and Rahul fall for each other. But a twist comes in their life when Rajeshwari comes across another suitable match for Nisha - Yuvraaj (Vatsal Sheth). This leads to bonhomie and intrigue.Avoid ... » read more

    Patchy script ruined the movie…

Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 4 out of 10

    By Chintan (09 Jun 2010)

The first half just about manages to hang together but in the second, Toh Baat Pakki derails. The writing is dull and Shinde further slows the pace down by bunging in songs that feature the otherwise traditional and simple characters in hip clothes. The film could have clearly done well without the surplus song-and-dance.
But though this film essentially works partly because comedy keeps overshadowing candy floss in the treatment. The humour is not slapstick which adds to the appeal. Shinde tries hard to channel the wholesome humour of comedies like those of Basu ... » read more

    Tabu is fantastic as ever

Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 6 out of 10

    By Suchita Mukherjee(14 Jun 2010)

Toh Baat Pakki was neither too impressive nor too disappointing. Its a rather run of the mill story of an overprotective older sister looking for the best possible match for her younger sister. Tabu as the older sister is very believable and delivers a great performance as always. Sharman Joshi as the first suitor who is booted by Tabu but genuinely loves the younger sister has given a great performance too. The rest of the cast comprising of Ayub Khan, Vatsal Seth, Himani Shivpuri and Yuvika are passable. Watch this movie if you are a diehard fan of Tabu like me. » read more

    The only thing I enjoyed…

Toh Baat Pakki! rating: 5 out of 10

    By Mitesh Shah(23 Jun 2010)

Tabu… She is in terrific form. She is a definite pleasure to watch. After a long time she does impresses us in an author-backed role. She's natural and it must be said that it gets difficult to move your eyes when she's on screen. Certainly this is one of her most entertaining acts since Biwi No.1 that gives her the scope to display her flair for comedy which she lost to more serious roles subsequently.
Comedy comes naturally to Sharman Joshi as he excels in expressions and timing to come up with a splendid performance. He is again, likable and gets it right.
