My Rating

  • Tum Mile rating: 4 out of 10(Vinayak Chandra wrote on 18 Nov 2009)

Ever since, i had seen its theatrical trailer, Tum Mile was always one of my most awaited movies keeping in mind the fact that is a love story with only the backdrop of 26/7 deluge. But the deluge and disaster instead lands on the movie itself!!!

The story is about Akshay (Emraan) & Sanjana (Soha) and how love blossoms between the two. They are so much in love that they both decide to move into a live in. Happy they are, but Emraan's short temper and wrong attitude leads into a breakup. Now they meet in a plane, which is flying to Mumbai on the day of the deluge..26/7.

The movie has a fantastically written and directed first half. The love story is so well shaped till the interval, that you are almost sure that this one is turning out to be another gem from the Bhatts. But comes the second half, and the movie dips itself!

Love story got too tiring in the second half. Even in Jannat, match fixing was used just as a tool, but it had a certain impact, whereas this 26/7 deluge is made out to be a joke. It does give its moment of thrill, but that needed to last longer, and also the story shouldnt have been hurried off in such a weird fashion, towards the end! All this combined, made the floods being a lame tool to reunite the lovers. Also, there was nothing like that they got to know each other so well, than they had six years before. There was hardly any lively conversation between the two, and all that they had to do was to reunite without any reason!

Screenplay and editing are the most to be blamed for the poor display in the second half. Certain scenes were messed.
When Soha sees Emraan in the flood for the first time, she cries out to him, but he doesnt see her and moves on. The very next scene shows Emraan walking into the bus. The way both these scenes happen, it feels that there was a continuity lapse between the two.

I wonder why was Soha apologizing to Emraan before 'Tu Hi Haqeeqat'? when it was Emraan who had kissed her and when she came to meet him the next day, it was he who wanted to part ways?

The kid that Soha picks up, does get his mom back, but after a few scenes you see that kid playing cards along with Emraan & Soha! and his mom is nowhere to be seen. And well from where did you get the cards??

They basically wanted us to be touched by the death of Emraan's friend as he was talking about his wife mostly during the floods, but well it didnt turn out that way!

The climax is so abrupt! It is so disastrous at one moment and suddenly in the next, you have everything washed off and the lead protagonists going back, falling in love once again. HUH!!

Cinematography was good to some extent. While i loved the background scores.

Music of the movie is excellent and top notch! Pritam delivers once again. 'Iss Jahaan Mein' was the best picturised song in the movie as the way it was shot completely did justice to the fresh n breezy sound that the song carries along with it. Other songs too were timely picturised and quite nicely shot especially Tu Hi Haqeeqat and O Meri Jaan!

    Best Scenes:

    'Iss Jahaan Mein' song
    Tum Mile song
    Tu Hi Haqeeqat song
    Titanic rip-off scene

Emraan Hashmi does a good job. He continues to grow as an actor and will surely reach great heights if he keeps going this way.

Soha Ali Khan was good only in bits and pieces. She was mostly in her limited set of expressions!

Emraan's friend in the movie was fine too. Mantra was good for her short role.

Overall, Tum Mile is a movie with a brilliant first half but an equally bad second half. The love story gets tiring and the disasters should have been given a longer reel.
