Movie is about the emotional struggles(a true story) of a 13 year old girl Punithavadhy who is raped by Srilankan armymen in SriLanka.First, please watch this movie by anymeans. The sad part is due to cinema being in a commercial state, this movie has already flopped in TamilNadu due to lack of promotions, people's varied perceptions on the Srilankan Tamil issue and the film having its own drawbacks.
But the best part about this movie is that it makes you socially aware about certain issues and tends to ask you a lot of questions for which you don't really have an answer. Why this Srilankan girl suffered this cruel fate? Why did not she not get the same love and affection from people in Srilanka?
There are some nice and disappointing aspects of this film.
The nice aspects:
1.Natural acting performances by all actors involved especially Sathyaraj,Sangeetha and child artist Neenika.
3.Soul-stirring songs and Background music.
4.Not too many illogical sequences as present in commercial cinema of today.
5.Realistic and poignant at most levels(as it is inspired by a true story).
1.Too many melodramatic or emotional moments. The focus of the film gets affected.
2.Screenplay is a bit weak in the second half.
3.A Lengthy first half.
4.Slow pace overall.
5.Poor picturisation of the soul-stirring Irrupai thamizha song.
6.Film is a bit inconsistent. It is engaging at some points and disengaging at some levels.
There are some standout moments in the film where good human character is showcased.Be sure to enjoy and appreciate these moments:
There is a moment in which a pregnant Punithavadi escapes from a place. She does not where to go and hides in a playground. An auto-driver helps her finds the location where she wants to go.The auto-driver feeds her bun and helps her to drink water.LONG live such people.
Another moment is where a transgender saves Punithavadhi from getting raped by unruly guys at Marina Beach.
A truly special moment is just before the climax where patients in a hospital pray for her speedy recovery.I wondered why she did not get such help from her war-ravaged country.
The concept of social service and helping nature of people is truly highlighted very well in this film.
Regardless of the fact whether you support Srilankan Tamil issue or not,you would truly empathize with Punithavadi in this film.
Also a special word of appreciation to Neenika who played the role of Punithavadi. She has given a very natural performance and performed like a seasoned artist. Can't just believe that this is her debut film!!Also Sathyaraj and Sangeetha shine in their respective roles.
If you are willing to forgive the flaws, this film would be a memorable viewing experience.
