Early Life (including Date of Birth, Place of Birth, Parentage etc)
Uday Chopra was born in the illustrious Chopra clan as second son to Yash & Pamela Chopra on 5th Jan. 1973. Aditya Chopra is elder to him by 1-1/2 years.
Elder brother’s reputation preceded him even in school. This Bombay Scottish student put up plays and acts in school. However, it was in 1991 when Uday was in Sydenham College that he got the first opportunity to be Assistant to Yash Chopra in Lamhe (1991).He followed as Assistant Director in films like Parampara (1993), Darr (1993), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). However, he had to wait till 2000 to get a break as actor in Mohabattein (2000) where he was one out of six newcomers. The film did well at the box office.
Hits, Misses and Spikes
The hit film Mohabattein(2000) was followed up by a string of insignificant movies like Mujse Doosti Karoge (2002), and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) with debutant Tulip Joshi, Supari (2003), Charas (2004), Neal-n-Nikky (2005). He had his first hit big hit in 2004 with the action thriller Dhoom where he played the role of Ali, a bike racer. The stupendous success of Dhoom was followed by Dhoom 2(2006).
Uday has played cameos in two films – Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).
His track record ‘behind the scenes’ has been spotless with successes like Darr (1993), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Hum Tum (2004)
and Veer-Zaara (2004)
The younger Chopra still has a long way to go as far as winning awards are concerned, though he was nominated as Best Comedian for IIFA, Zee & Screen Awards (2006) for his sterling performance in Dhoom 2 and by Screen Awards in 2001 for the Most Promising Newcomer in Mohabattein (2000).
