    Up in the Air—Literally

Up In The Air rating: 8 out of 10

A perfectly timed “Up in the air” is a movie you wouldn’t want to miss for the slapstick jokes and transporting comedy, also backpacked with emotions and a heart-touching story line. It is a story of Ryan Bingham, the corporate assassin played by George Clooney who is up in the air most of his time—travelling…firing people.

Completely void of human connection and emotion, Ryan is happy with his out-of-the-suitcase life, until he meets Alex Goran played by Vera Farmiga, a fast-moving businesswoman, who, like Ryan, is mostly in the air.

Ryan lives with ... » read more

This movie, actually nominated for 6 Oscars, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay Writing, and Best Achievement in Direction also; plus, the movie won 42 other Awards with 51 other Nominations.

Woo…What an achievement! Now I am sure you would definitely think that what is so special about this movie? On a frank note, after watching this movie, I seriously can’t tell how or can’t express you how am I feeling about this movie.

    Story:
It’s a very plain, simple, sweet and a very straight forward kind of screenplay. No over dramatic situations, ... » read more

    up in the air.....smart movie

Up In The Air rating: 8 out of 10

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this "dramady". It was well written and superbly acted. It gets my top rating because the plot development surprised me more than once. Those looking for a light comedy will be disappointed, since this is a story about character development in a complex world, by people who want to keep simple. For those who complain that it is in poor taste to "make fun" of unemployment in these dark times, I do not know what movie you watched. Tears flowed aplenty. For those looking for a neatly concocted resolution to all the tensions, look instead ... » read more

An all out George Clooney show

Up In The Air rating: 0 out of 10

    By Anonymous (20 Feb 2010)

Anyone else as the Ryan Bingham of Up In The Air would have been a casting disaster. Some roles are tailor-made for certain actors, I can’t think of anyone else as the protagonist of Up In The Air. George Clooney it is. Confident, suave, sexy, and yet vulnerable at times, Clooney carries Up In The Air on his shoulders, and like numerous times before, he is majestic.

Up In The Air is the story of Ryan Bingham, a high-flying (literally) downsizing expert. Bingham’s job is to fire people, it’s a tough job but he does it with ease. He consoles the victims, is humane ... » read more

    Nominated for Oscar ????

Up In The Air rating: 2 out of 10

I'll stick with the acting. George Clooney literally is sleepwalking in this movie. Does he even bother to change his accent or mannerisms for a role, or does he think we'll believe anything his horrible self does? Vera Famiga is doing the only good acting in the film. But, her role is pretty worthless, and she gets forgettable in the black hole that is this movie.

And finally, Anna Kendrick. She is HORRIBLE. Her performance is so BAAD, she deserves a Razzie this year. Her accent is uneven (one scene she sounds like she's from Canada), when she cries she looks ... » read more

    One major flaw!!!

Up In The Air rating: 7 out of 10

    By Divya Arora(23 Jun 2010)

Only one major flaw and it's a character and plot flaw which may be in the source book.

Alex, yes, just wonderful as played by Vera Farmiga, is however badly written. While the affair is playful it deepens when they visit Wisconsin for a weekend wedding. The audience believes along with Clooney's character that this signifies a real bond between them. It does not and for devastating reasons.

This movie has many good and surprising features, notably, an ambiguous ending. Indeed the ambivalent approach infuses the entire story, underwritten in the ironic ... » read more
