Is ‘Uro Chithi’ about SMSes or is it about conflicts, tensions, love and lust. At the centre of the film is Aniket (Indraneil) who wakes up from a drunken stupor at a resort and reflects on his life in the past year. A year that has seen a slot of tension, betrayal, sadness and downs in life.Aniket reflects on each of the SMSes sent by certain people and certain incidents are shown based on interactions between the protagonist and the people one by one. It seems as if most have caused more misery to him or saddened him more in any which way. The only exceptions may be his teacher Farhad (played By Anjan Dutt), his father (played by Biswajit Chakrabarty and during whose last moments he couldn’t be present) and maybe his wife. But even then his relatioship with his wife is at it’s extreme worst with extreme tension where there is no trust thanks to Ani’s own doing (the result of his affair with Lillete) which creates such an atmosphere where Raka, Ani’s wife (played by Srilekha) tries to commit suicide(she is prevented from doing so by Ani) and later leaves him. His love life with Lilette comes crashing down after he discovers she is HIV positive. Then you have the recession which hits everyone including Ani’s friends and Ani and his colleagues and his boss loses her job. On top that there is office politics and his trusted colleague Manish turns out to be manipulative. He has also has a friend Kevin, an event manager who is a failure and his fashion designer wife Sonia who want top abort their child as the child is not normal. Since Ani always sticks by his friends, this further adds to his misery as he has another friend Suhash whose factory has a lockout and later on his wife Sudha who becomes a beautician is arrested on charges of prostitution.

All these put together makes Ani literally go through hell .The film is about how Ani deals with his inner self and the turmoil and manages to survive despite all odds .Things brighten towards the end as the recession comes to an end.

The film is basically about one central character and his relationships with certain people. That includes the after effects of certain global and personal events that it has on the people and Ani as well. The first half of the film is not very well sketched out and that includes the characters. The film keeps going back and forth at a speed which makes it even worse for the audience to understand what is happening. The character of Farhad(Anjan Dutt) seems to be a complete add on and was not necessary.Rudra as Kevin has not been able to do justice to the part as everything about him including his mannerisms seems wrong.Tanusree as Lilette has sort of lived up to the role she got .Srilekha as Rakha has also played her part. The role of Rohit (Rajatava Dutta) is not very properly sketched out. There is no scope here for anyone to perform at a very high level as since this film is not exactly about performances. The only person who has got a scope to act and has done well is Biswanath Basu as Suhas. He is very good.Indraneil looks a bit stiff at times. The music is appropriate. The ending of the film is much better than the first half where things look a little brighter overall which includes Ani’s current state of life as well.

The film is about one man and his inner quest !
