Valkyrie synopsis (Story)

Valkyrie opens with a Colonel Stauffenberg in Africa, penning in a journal his thoughts about World War II, and how he feels Hitler is destroying Germany. Stauffenberg states he took an oath to swear allegiance to Hitler, but feels he owes more to Germany. Shortly thereafter, the camp in Africa is attacked and Stauffenberg is badly injured, losing one of his eyes, his right hand, and two fingers from his left hand.

In "Valkyrie" - the fact-based movie from director Bryan Singer - Tom Cruise plays Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life German Colonel who led the titular operation to assassinate Hitler. Tom Cruise speaks a few lines of subtitled German before falling back on English, signalling Mr. Singer's lack of confidence in his star's ability to do an accent. From then on, each cast member is given leave to use whatever accent they brought to work that day.
