After two successive flops in Villu and Engeyum Kaadhal, Prabhu Deva returns back with a Telugu remake. The Telugu film is Souryam, which released in 2008 and became a hit.Vedi starts with a bang.
The story is quite simple.Vishal is a police officer Prabhakar, who comes to Kolkatta, in search of his sister. He has only her photo in which she was a kid. Her life is in danger, so Vishal tries to protect her from the bad guys. So will he do the assigned job? That’s what Vedi is all about.
Since her life is in danger, he travels to Calcutta. On the way, he is captured by the baddies, but escapes after killing them.
The story moves to Calcutta, where he enrolls in a college as a physical trainer. He joins with a fake name called Balu.Vivek is a physical education master in the same college, whose sign is needed for Vishal to become a trainer.
The heroine Sameera Reddy has a peppy song introduction in the film.Sameera plays a bubbly college girl Paro.Vishal insults Sameera in a particular scene, as a result of which she becomes angry. But slowly situations change and she falls in love with him.Sameera looks beautiful and her chemistry with Vishal is fabulous.
Vivek’s comedy is a plus for the film. Though a bit amateurish, it does elicit a few laughs.
The bad guys come to Calcutta and there are a few fight sequences.Slowly, it is revealed that Aishwarya, played by Poonam Kaur, studying in the same college, is Vishal’s sister.
Vishal also reveals through a flashback that he is actually a cop named Prabhakar.During his stay in Tuticorin, he has some issues with the bad guys. The confrontations with the villain Easwaramoorthy, played by Sayaji Shinde, are excellent.Vishal does cause a lot of problems for him. So the villain, seeking revenge, kidnaps his sister. The high point of the film is that she does not that Vishal is actually her brother and hates him for his past mistake. Finally the villain is killed and both are reunited.
This is a film where all the actors have done a fine job. But it is Vishal who impresses with his screen presence and acting. Vishal’s acting has improved a lot since his debut film. He looks completely convincing in the action sequences as well as emotional ones. Make no mistake, this is an out and out Vishal film.
Sameera impresses during her short stay in the screen. Although her character lacks significance, she has done a fine job. The important sister character, Aishwarya is played with elan and consummate ease by Poonam Kaur. Shinde does not make a great impact. His characterization is also not very powerful.
The music by Vijay Antony is just ok.Kadhalikka is actually the pick of the album.Enna Achu and Ippadi Mazhai are good.
The picturisation of the songs is good in parts. For some songs the picturisation is brilliant, for others it is just average. The choreography for most of the songs is great.
Verdict:Nice Action Entertainer.
