Salman Khan has been credited as the story writer of the film. Sadly, this one's not quite the debut he would have liked, because the story is the weakest link, after the direction.
Most importantly Anil Sharma should've avoided lifting scenes from Hollywood period films like Gladiator and Troy to avoid comparisons. The project had everything going in its favour, but alas, Sharma and his writers make a complete mess of the story. I think this time, Sharma borrows the plot from his last big hit, Gadar, and simply changes the setting - it's all about a boy and girl from warring sides falling in love. There is also the maar-dhaad, desh prem and the villainous father - only the scale is grander than ever before. Only plus point is the war scenes, digitally enhanced, of course, but it looks magnificent.
Overall I didn’t get bored in the first half; the second put me to sleep.
