These kinds of films are seldom made, with a concept for others to emulate!
‘Vicky Donor’ is an extraordinary film with a topic which is not much talked about in India. It’s not openly discussed to be more precise. The film introduces the topic of sperm donation with the help of humour in it.
Vicky is a fun loving and mischievous guy for whom life is all about enjoying, he lives with his mother who runs a beauty parlour to support their living. Vicky is spotted by Dr Chadhha who is an infertility expert and runs a sperm bank in order to help childless couples. He has more of failed cases and is need of suitable donor for one of his clients. He finds Vicky and persuades him to donate his sperms. After much persuasion Vicky gives in and becomes a sperm donor. Everything goes well till he falls in love with a beautiful Bengali girl. The fact that he is a sperm donor creates problems in his love life. Will the girl he loves accept him as a sperm donor? Well this is what movie is all about!
Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam are the lead pairs of the film. Dr Chadhha, the character played by Annu Kapoor looks interesting though. John Abraham is producing the film and has also given a special appearance in an item song of sorts and thus he can be called as an item producer (a producer with an item song in the film!)
‘Vicky Donor’ is not a film with great collection of songs. The film is simple with few simple tracks. The music is on decent lines.
The initial song of the film Rokda, Rokda is interesting. The pace of the song keeps fluctuating from slow to fast and then back to slow. The song is realistic in nature and depicts the importance of money and what happens when there is money. The song has been sung by Akshay Verma and Aditi Singh. It’s truly synonymous to situation of the film.
Rum Rum Rum Whisky. comes along with great energy. The tunes and lyrics are addictive. The steps are easy to emulate. John appears in this particular song and shows off his well maintained body, which is enough for girls to like this song. Well! In real sense the song is funny and shows the lighter side of the movie. The lines Dol na Dol na… sticks on to your tongue after listening to this song. This song will definitely work irrespective of the movie’s performance. It will make people crazy for a long time.
Kho jaane de...is opposite of the previous one…it moves slowly. The song has an ordinary feel to it. It’s the singers Aditi and Clinton Cerejo who somehow add little weight to it. Lyrics are not that great.
Paani da rang is sung by Ayushmann Khurrana himself and is not that bad. The song reaches your heart steadily. It has a raw appeal with a fresh voice of Ayushmann himself. It seems he has gained fair bit of experience in singing by hosting so many reality shows. It has this folk song feeling in it. The song has female version but the one sung by Ayushmann is better.
Mar jayian is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal Dadlani. It’s a romantic song composed by newcomers Donn – Bann. It’s slightly Sufi in nature. Actually the line Mar Jaiyan…. is only energetic, the rest of the song moves on slow track. It’s an average song.
Chaddha is a funny song. The song is hilariously sung by Mika Singh. No other voice would have suited this song the way Mika’s has suited. The song surely switches on your mood and transforms you into a mischievous mood. It has Punjabi tadka as well. The song is enjoyable and has a future in clubs and parties.
Abhishek-Akshay, Donn-Bann, Rochak Kohli and Ayushmann have contributed to the music of the film. Overall they have done a fair job on the music.
My vote goes for Rum Rum Rum Whisky as it lightens up the mood.
The film is produced by actor John Abraham and thus has already got the desired publicity. This film marks the entry of John into production. Vicky Donor has good concept, simply out of the box but it’s risky as well. This kind of concept has been rarely attempted in Bollywood. If the film works it will leave a trail for such kind of informative and social films.
Mostly the youngsters and college students are likely to hop on for the film but since it has a message it may attract the older lot to.
The trailer is funny and informative. It’s surely tempting and has received great response in spite of having newcomers in the lead.
Keeping in mind the taste of the present audience, who are ready to accept experimental films, this film has a fair chance of working at the box office. Even if does not work, it will always be remembered for its raw concept and bravery. The film has the potential to make a mark, not in terms of trade but in terms of concept. Kudos to the filmmakers for trying to bring forth, such a delicate topic in a lighter manner!
