Videsh is the story of Punjabi girl who walked in the land of unknown faces ‘Desh to Videsh’ after her marriage. And then the normal problems like family tortures, husband harassment, treating housewives worst then servants and etc showed us which normally a women faces after her marriage whether she is in he Desh or at Videsh. But here Deepa Mehta showed us that how a women feels if she at Videsh. The insecure problem arises. And at the end she realizes her own self-respect but it has been shown in a very dull way. It can be made more then better what it has been shown to us. After the interval from the middle of nowhere superstitious story evolved and I was literally shocked, what the heck was that? As the women was harassed by her husband so one “Icchadhari” (wishful) snake coming in the picture and transforms his body in the form of Preity’s husband and giving her love and care. At the end her family and her husband thinks that she is being involved with some other man in her life. She gives “Naag Pariksha”, an exam where a person has to put his/her hands inside the house of the snake and if he/she is guilty then the snake will bite and if not then the snake will not. At the end Snake didn’t bite her as it was already been shown that he was with her. She gained confidence and realizes her self respect and finally moved out of the house and returned back to her Desh. Now you all can realize that the film can be made much better than this. Although the moral was good, believe in you believe in god and you can achieve anything and Deepa Mehta tried to give out message to those families who still dreams about their daughter for NRI’s Son-in-law that its better to marry an Indian guy rather No-Resident Indian guy. Also I loved the way the film was directed. Music was wonderfully given. Bad casting, felt like it was not the Preity’s cup of tea.
