WAKE UP: S-E-L ARE BACK!
After Rock On! Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy weren't really being able to do justice to their talent with a great album. To be honest, Shorkut - The Con is On!; Luck By Chance; Chandni Chowk To China don't really do them proud, but yes with this simple and short album (it just has 5 songs and a club mix) they've delivered, again! I'm sure it's an album they'll reflect upon with pleasure, as the days go by!
It's just the pure sound which hits you when the album begins, with this 'country' and 'rock' flavour which fits so well with your perceptions about this movie.
Wake Up Sid! - is the rock number. It starts simply enough to the strains of the accoustic guitar and Shankar's fabulous voice and then develops into a full (soft) rock number with the electric guitar and drums coming in with the chorus. An adrenaline pumper, and somewhat reminiscent of the days of Rock On and Taare Zameen Par!
Iktara - It's strings again, strummed to the raw magnetism in Kavita Seth's voice, rendered good support with the softness in Amitabh Bhattacharya's voice. What a lovely song to listen to!
Life is crazy - The foot tapping number ready to make one swing, sung perfectly in keeping with the mood in the song by Uday Benegal and the little master, Shankar Mahadevan himself. Drums and the guitar used pacily and to great effect.
Kya Karoon - Sung beautifully by Clinton Cerejo. The song makes good use of the mouth organ along with the guitar, set to a lazy beat to give a lovely 'country' flavour to the song.
Aaj Kal Zindagi - Again sung exquisitely by Shankar, but reminds one immediately of 'Kaisi Hai Ye Rut' (By Srinivas in Dil Chahta Hai). A good song which shows the range in Shankar's voice quite effectively.
Wake Up Sid also has a Club Mix version in the album.
To sum it up - an album which touches you, very today, very listenable with tremendous repeat value. Hope it does well!
