  • What 'mission' is this film all about?

Warrant:The Mission rating: 0 out of 10(Aditya Chakrabarty wrote on 02 Oct 2011)

Warrant is a disappointing ‘action’ film if one may call it to have been released during the pujas. The film is a confusing film because it does not qualify as a film of any particular genre after viewing the film.

The film starts with 4 guys being shown to have kidnapped the two daughters of the home minister and taking them away to an undisclosed location. Why no one knows for a long time! They take refuge in a house which is located in a forest belonging to an elderly lady whom they threaten. When Rahul, their leader goes to fetch some medicines, CRPF jawans see him and go after him. When both parties fire at each other, the jawans are killed and Rahul gets injured in the process as he is hit by a bullet.Sancharita nurses him back to health and they become close after a while. The jawans come looking for them, but is told that they are not there as the elderly lady takes their side. The Home Minister gets anxious and the cops start searching for the group and are even able to locate them. All this while, Sancharita and Rahul manage to sing a few songs in lush locales! The cops land up there while the group flees. When the cops manage to locate them, they are arrested in the presence of the Home Minister and his wife who also manage to reach there! Oh! We come to know a little before all this happens that Rahul had done all this to take revenge on the Home Minster as he had come home one fine day and discovered that all the villagers had been gunned down including his mother on the Home Minister’s instructions as he had wanted the village to be free of ‘terrorists’! By terrorists, did he mean ‘Maoists’? We don’t know! The film doesn’t have any progress after a while and it is static.

The film does not have acting to speak of. The songs are not worth remembering. The best part about this film is the songs have been shot in Manali and all you get to see is snow and snow and it looks nothing less than a foreign destination instead of someplace in India. It simply looks beautiful. Joy’s voice has been dubbed by someone for some reason which makes things worse. The film even has a tagline-‘The Mission’, but what’ mission’ we are not very sure of till the very end .The film could have been a smart thriller, but the execution is poor.
